║ Overview of Intel Matched Memory for HP LaserJet Printers ║

Features and Benefits - HP LaserJet Memory Modules
FEATURES AND BENEFITS - HP LASERJET MEMORY MODULES
■ Expandable -- 1MB to 4MB on one card
The maximum memory you can add to a IIP or III series printer is
4MB. Many vendors have only 2MB maximum cards. Putting 4MB on one
card saves a slot AND it saves money!
■ Easy installation
Auto configure -- no switches. The microcontroller senses how much
memory is on the board. All other expandable boards require the
user to set switches or jumpers to tell the printer how much memory
is on the board.
The LaserJet memory module is easy to install; just slip the module
into an expansion slot and it configures itself. No jumpers or
switches to set. The module connector is sturdy and self-centering
so you have fewer worries about bending your printer's pins during
module installation.
■ Sturdy self-aligning connector -- it's very easy to break pins on
the LaserJet when installing some memory boards. We have a
specially designed, custom connector that makes it a snap to plug
in correctly.
■ Durable, high-quality construction and 5-year warranty
The LaserJet memory module can contain a maximum of 4 megabytes of RAM,
which is the maximum of expandable RAM for the supported
printers. If your LaserJet module is not completely filled with RAM
chips, you can add more RAM by inserting industry-standard 256K x 4 (at
100 nanoseconds or faster) chips.

Features and Benefits - HP LaserJet Memory Modules
This table illustrates the approximate amount of memory required for
different uses of your LaserJet printer. The numbers suggest the
amount that you'll typically need to add beyond the standard memory of
that printer. The numbers are rounded to the nearest memory module
size.
HOW DO DOTS PER INCH RELATE TO MEMORY REQS?
Since the LaserJet can print 300 dots by 300 dots per inch, one square
inch of document could contain as many as 90,000 dots. Each dot
requires a single bit of printer memory, so a square inch can use as
much as 11KB of information. An 8 1/2" x 11" single page could require
over 1MB of printer memory just to create the image.

The module is 5.5 inches by 4.25 inches with ejector tabs and a 48-pin
connector on the under side.
The module comes with 1MB and can hold up to 4MB on one card using
256x4 DRAMs. There are no switches, a microcontroller senses how much
memory is on the board. Since it's very easy to break pins on the
LaserJet when installing boards, we had a custom connector designed; it
is sturdy and self-aligning.
